KONG #65 - 2006

March 19th, 2006

Here is the weekly newsletter! Enjoy!

Kong Roundup (Top headlines of major interest)
---------------------------------------------------

1983 KONG Party Pictures
Dan Fiebiger writes: Thought all you KONG-Peter-Jackson fans might maybe be
interested in this: In March, 1983, at the Chinese Theater, there was a big
50th Anniversary KONG party, celebrating the release of the original 1933
film. Most everyone who worked on the film, or loved the film, or was
related to someone who worked on the film, or worked in special effects, was
there. I (now a retired efx animator) was there also, and shot many photos
of the event, and shot the original KONG models (now owned by Peter Jackson)
at Forre Ackerman's place later on.

Fay Wray Stamps Available in Canada
DGFisher writes: The cover of the new Details magazine -- the publication of
Canada Post's philatelic division mailed out to stamp collectors -- features
a stamp of Fay Wray with Kong ascending the ESB over her shoulder. The stamp
is a nice lithographic design and will be officially issued to the public on
May 26, 2006.

Catch Some of 'Guerrilla Distribution' Online!
Adrian writes: I was wondering if you could mention in your news section
that the film "Guerrilla Distribution" is being made available to download
from www.realkong.co.uk. Guerrilla Distribution is a mockumentary about two
guerrilla filmmakers who have decided that they are going to rip off Peter
Jackson by making King Kong and selling it pretending it to be his version.

King Kong conquers Empire Awards
King Kong has been voted the best movie of 2005 by film fans, earning it the
top prize at the Empire Awards. The gorilla remake won best movie, beating
Oscar winner Crash as well as fellow nominees Sin City, Star Wars Episode
III and War of the Worlds. Crash star Thandie Newton was voted best actress,
while fans named Johnny Depp best actor for his role in Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory.

Kong Blooper Reel
>From AICN: Peter Jackson sent in a video acceptance to receive his Best Film
gong at the 2006 Empire Awards and, after the usual pleasantries, Jackson
included some never-before-seen footage from the film. There's a blooper
reel, Andy Serkis 'original' vision for Kong, lightsaber action (seriously)
and a brand new scene constructed especially for Empire that answers the
biggest question of the film - how did they get Kong back to the States?

History", sounds interesting to me! The premiere is March 21st at 3:30PM

KONG HISTORY: King Kong is back. In 2005, writer/director Peter Jackson, the
man responsible for "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy, will direct a new,
large-scale remake featuring a monstrous computer generated ape to be
created by Jackson's special effects company, WETA Digital. However, Kong's
origins lay long ago, towards the beginning of the last century in fact.
What follows is a history of the great ape's adventures, on both the large
and small screen. This history's films and TV series are the one's that were
widely released.
