King Kong has returned to the top of the UK and Ireland's box office. Peter
Jackson's remake of the classic film regained the crown from The Chronicles
of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The two films have jostled
for pole position in recent weeks, taking £2.16m and £2.13m respectively at
the weekend. Gay cowboy romance Brokeback Mountain - starring Jake

Jackson highlights gorilla plight with DVD release
King Kong director Peter Jackson has added a documentary film about the
plight of gorillas to the DVD release of the Hollywood blockbuster, in a bid
to prevent the extinction of the endangered species. The acclaimed
film-maker is teaming up with the International Gorilla Conservation
Programme for the environmental campaign, after the original 1933 Kong movie
prompted a huge upsurge in gorilla hunting. The DVD release of the remake -
due to hit stores later this year - is hoped to increase public awareness of
the species, which is predicted to be extinct within thirty years.

KONG HISTORY: King Kong is back. In 2005, writer/director Peter Jackson, the
man responsible for "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy, will direct a new,
large-scale remake featuring a monstrous computer generated ape to be
created by Jackson's special effects company, WETA Digital. However, Kong's
origins lay long ago, towards the beginning of the last century in fact.
What follows is a history of the great ape's adventures, on both the large
and small screen. This history's films and TV series are the one's that were
widely released.
