Production Diary: Day 77
New York City circa 1933 comes alive in present day New Zealand! The first
production diary of 2005 gets us knee deep into the NYC set! The extras walk
the streets, steam flows out of the sewers; the depression is in full swing!
Grant Major and Peter Jackson show every corner and alley of the set,
including some of the work that is still ongoing, even with the cameras
rolling elsewhere. We get to see some 'mood scenes' being shot, including
protesters. Take a look! Oh it is GREAT to have a new production diary to
salivate over!

Press turns back clock for Kong
The printing press that six days a week rolls out thousands of copies of The
Dominion Post has briefly turned its hand to producing The New York Times,
The Wall Street Journal and other Big Apple newspapers. But do not expect
them to be home-delivered. The newspapers, which also include the
lesser-known and defunct Barnard Bulletin, Salamanca Republican Press and
the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, were dated December 12, December 13 or December
14, 1933, and are to be used as props in Peter Jackson's King Kong.

Culture, was invited onto the New York set of King Kong - with her visit
covered and shown on TV3's news tonight (Wed 26 Jan). During the piece it
was stated that filming was up to day 3 of the 3-week shoot, with Colin
Hanks, Naomi Watts and Jack Black working on early scenes of the movie.

New York Set Ready To Shoot
Gandalf writes: Well a lot has taken place in the last two weeks. After my
break I returned to the set today to find it bustling with activity. A huge
marquee and cast caravans now occupy the carpark - all the cars being parked
along the gravel road surrounding the set with access now restricted by
security. Most of the store fronts now appear painted, many sporting
verandahs, although lots of scaffold is still in use.

KONG HISTORY: King Kong is back. In 2005, writer/director Peter Jackson, the
man responsible for "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy, will direct a new,
large-scale remake featuring a monstrous computer generated ape to be
created by Jackson's special effects company, WETA Digital. However, Kong's
origins lay long ago, towards the beginning of the last century in fact.
What follows is a history of the great ape's adventures, on both the large
and small screen. This history's films and TV series are the one's that were
widely released.
