KONG #4 - Where one giant newsletter rules supreme

October 2nd, 2004

Here is the weekly newsletter! Enjoy!

Kong Roundup (Top headlines of major interest)

Production Diary: Day 18
Day 18 brings us more soaking conditions on the SS Venture. Special Effects
gurus Geoff Curtis, Ross Anderson & Mike McDonald give us a guided tour
around the portable 'dump tanks' that create the huge waves that splash up
against the boat. Working with that much cold water in the middle of the
night in late winter....who said filmmaking was glorious?!

Fay Wray Was To Have Kong-cameo
Entertainment Weekly has an interview with Jack Black online in which Black
states that Fay Wray was to have a small cameo in Jackson's King Kong,
saying the legendary line: "Oh no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was beauty
killed the beast." Unfortunately Wray passed away last month. Read the full
article here.

Production Diary: Day 16
The Venture crew are still getting hammered by a massive storm...that
doesn't really exist. Take a look at the Day 16 entry which features a TON
of the cast, including Jack Black, Lobo Chan, LOTR veteran Jed Brophy, Jason
Whyte (dump tanks?), Stephen Hall & Thomas Kretschmann as they get doused
over and over (and over) by gallons of water to simulate massive waves
hitting the ship. Take a look!

KONG HISTORY: King Kong is back. In 2005, writer/director Peter Jackson, the
man responsible for "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy, will direct a new,
large-scale remake featuring a monstrous computer generated ape to be
created by Jackson's special effects company, WETA Digital. However, Kong's
origins lay long ago, towards the beginning of the last century in fact.
What follows is a history of the great ape's adventures, on both the large
and small screen. This history's films and TV series are the one's that were
widely released.
