Greg elaborates: "This was one of a salvo of flying insect designs we did where the brief was to come up with over sized, terrifying super insects that would infest the island and add to the worlds intensity, detail and danger. We where always trying to make these things as gross as possible so this one has an idea that surfaced a few times of eggs on it's carapace. "The concept was that they were laid by the female on the male and they would in the end use Dad as a food source after hatching upon him. That sounds disgusting but is absolutely no more crazy than many real behaviours in the insect kingdom. From an artistic point of view, this was a real learning experience as I had to go from in reality, knowing very little about the actual physiological structure of an insect, to delivering a believable but fantastic insect design in no time flat.
