Donkey Kong Lives

From ugo.com: Could The King of Kong be the long-awaited video game movie that breaks on through to the mainstream audience? That's what two movie studios are hoping will happen, and if they're right, there will be two different movies we'll get to see.

The King of Kong is a documentary about two video game rivals named Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe out to smash the world's record for Donkey Kong, the 1981 arcade game that launched the career of Mario and turned Nintendo into a billion-dollar gaming company. The movie is being screened at Slamdance, a spinoff of the Sundance Film Festival, and it's attracted the attention of Picturehouse and New Line Cinema. Picturehouse will release the documentary this summer in theaters while New Line thinks that there's more than enough drama between the battle of the joysicks to turn the original real-life story into the foundation for one of those "based on true events" movies. The original King of Kong director, Seth Gordon, will also serve as the director of the remake.
