LOS ANGELES: King Kong tallied a sound $US80.1 million from 55 territories, but the three-hour running time appears to have tempered the zealous box office expectations for the five-day international opening. Pulling in an estimated $63.4 million in the Friday-Sunday period, the $200 million blockbuster emerged as the industry's ninth-biggest international weekend of all time, distributor Universal Pictures said. King Kong topped the charts in 53 of its 55 markets. The UK provided an estimated $11.9 million; France, $7.3 million; Germany, $6.1 million; Russia, $5.1 million; Australia, $4.6 million; South Korea, $4.3 million; Spain, $3.9 million; Mexico, $3.8 million; and Brazil, $1.4 million.
