Carl Denham is a movie director looking for some way to revive his flagging career. He believes such an opportunity exists on Skull Island, a remote place where prehistoric creatures have managed to avoid extinction. Its tropical jungles are also home to the titular primate, an immensely powerful beast standing over 25 feet tall. A playwright by vocation, Jack Driscoll has been hired as the scriptwriter on the project, in which Ann Darrow, an actress struggling to make good in Depression-era New York, has the leading lady role.
