"King Kong" launches another bid to conquer Manhattan, box office

NEW YORK (AFP) - Peter Jackson, director of the blockbuster "Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy, has chosen to follow up that mega-success with a remake of the movie classic "King Kong," the mammoth ape that terrorized Manhattan, debuting on screens around the world 14 December. The movie was to have its red carpet rollout in New York City Monday, appropriately enough, just blocks from the Empire State Building, the famed skyscraper that shares top billing in the movie with Hollywood Naomi Watts and Adrien Brody.
