Film-maker Peter Jackson went to the New York premiere of his King Kong movie clutching the miniature model used to make the original Kong. He quipped that the model was his "date" for the night. As a child at his Pukerua Bay home, north of Wellington, Jackson spotted the model in a television screening of the original movie.
