The world premiere of Peter Jackson's King Kong will be in New York. Wellington is being considered for the Australasian debut. After months of speculation, Kong's Hollywood backers have confirmed the New York event. Other decisions, including whether Wellington will host a premiere for the $200 million movie, have still to be made. Universal Pictures vice-chairman Marc Shmuger is in Wellington for meetings with Jackson. The world premiere was an opportunity for New York "to welcome Kong back . . . New York is very excited about the opportunity and the city is one of our partners on the film.
