Is this the NEW LOTR Poster? Or is it a load of old pipe weed?
Lewman @ 8:14 pm EST

Hmmmm.....
What can be said about this then? Well at first glance it looks, looks, well kinda dull doesn't it?
I mean this poster is based on the 1998 conceptual art that was used to inspire the film's construction. And you can't feel a little dissapointed with the end result.
I mean in one sence it doesn't scream Hollywood success. That from the Tolkien fans POV is a good thing i guess.
But, for your joe public, the audience that New-Line are targeting, it doesn't look like it's the blockbuster film it was set out to be.
If I saw this poster in the cinema it wouldn't really inspire me to go see it. That is if I knew nothing about LOTR already.
If this is indeed the LOTR poster we'll be seeing in December, I'll eat my hat. Come on New-Line, you can do better! :)

Jackson goes Balistic with a chainsaw in NZ
Lewman @ 1:30 pm EST

Wellington film maker Peter Jackson returned to his roots when he launched the refurbishment of the city's Embassy Theatre ahead of the New Zealand premiere of his latest work, Lord of the Rings.
In scenes reminiscent of Bad Taste, an early Jackson splatter movie filmed on the coast north of Wellington, the director got behind a chainsaw and made the first cut to the interior of the historic cinema.
The theatre, built in 1924, is being overhauled to restore it to its original glory ahead of the New Zealand release of Rings. The $700,000 project is being funded through an interest-free loan from the Wellington City Council.
The theatre is calling on members of the public to help with the restoration by providing images or photographs of the cinema in its early days to help with the renovations. Pictures of the entrance, the ticket box and downstairs and upstairs lobbies are most urgently needed.
The theatre will be closed till August 9 while some of the major restructuring takes place, but will be open as normal after that, though the job will not be completed till early December.
The first part of the Rings trilogy is set to show in Wellington just before Christmas.
In Bad Taste, Jackson played an eccentric Beatles fan who helped defeat an invasion of aliens wanting to use humans as meat for an inter-galactic chain of fast food outlets. The film ended with him stowing away on their space craft, and destroying the head alien with a chainsaw.

Worth every penny too!

Look who's a rich bastard now? :) - this story's taken from Stuff, the New Zealand news site. "Peter Jackson worth $20 million
20 July 2001
Seatoun movie mogul Peter Jackson has joined New Zealand's wealthy elite, winning a spot on the National Business Review's annual list of our top money-makers.
The director of The Lord Of The Rings movie trilogy, filmed in New Zealand and due out in December, is said to be earning an eight-figure salary. That's not including the royalties he'll earn if the films are as successful as expected.
As in the past, NBR's list is based on estimates and sources. There is nothing definitive about it. Mr Jackson, 39, has homes in the Wellington suburb of Seatoun and Masterton and has investments in film companies. His past jobs include a stint at The Evening Post as a photo engraver.
His wealth is estimated at $20 million."
No more living on baked beans and DIY camera equipment for PJ!

Bad Taste.... But in Another Sense
Lewman @ 3:11 pm EST
Okay... Now I know this isn't PJ related, but I feel so drawn to write an article about it on TBHL so you can all hear about it. Last night on Channel four (in the uk) they screened a Brass Eye Special, which for all those people who don't know is a hard hitting, satirical, current affairs show. And what I saw for the 35 minutes it was on, was one of the greatest piece of television ever put on screen. What it has achieved is amazing, it took an issue that is so resident in the uk, if not the world, and shown all sides to it. How the media blow issues up out of proportion, and how it manipulates the public. Now I'm not going to tell you what the issue is, jesus I can't even spell it correctly! But if you have the bandwidth, and the time..... you HAVE to download this programme, not only am I ordering you to.... I'm making sure you do, your IP is already tapped ;p Brass Eye Special Part ONE 42.1mb
Brass Eye Special Part TWO 41.2mb
You'll of course need the DIVX codec, which you can download from here
So don't delay...... get downloading!
