Peter Jackson Takes On King Kong
BadTaste_nz @ 1:15 am EST
This from XTRA.CO.NZ
Top New Zealand movie director Peter Jackson's next project has been formally announced by Hollywood's Universal Studios.
Jackson will begin work on a re-telling of King Kong immediately after his work is finished on the third and final part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy "The Return of the King".
Jackson was working on the initial pre-production stages of King Kong prior to embarking on the Rings movies.
The movie will be written by the same team who wrote the scripts for Lord of the Rings: Jackson himself, his partner Fran Walsh and co-writer Philippa Boyens.
The screenplay is based on the original story by Merian C. Cooper and Edgar Wallace, which became the classic 1933 RKO Radio Pictures film, directed by Cooper and Ernest B. Schoesdack.
The RKO version of King Kong has been designated by the United States Library of Congress as one of the 100 Greatest Films and chosen by that organization for permanent preservation as a national treasure.
The new movie will be shot in New Zealand, with visual effects by the Oscar-winning Weta Workshop, and released in 2005.

3 Is The Magic Number!
Reno @ 11:48 am EST
Sceintists here at TBHL are attempting to find the awnser to the unawnserable question which is hounding all our minds: 'What is the best number which is less than or equall to three?" Our research suggests that - to fans of New Zealand film director Peter Jackson - 3 is indeed the magic number. No but seriously folks, the poll was a bit of an accident. It was a test poll that nobody got round to changing. However, as it's turned out to be probably one of our more popular polls, we'll leave it up fo just a little longer. (What do you mean I'm just to lazy to change it!)

NZFC Releasing DVDs Cont...
BadTaste_nz @ 8:04 pm EST
Not exactly Peter Jackson news, but just as good. After contacing the New Zealand Film Commission about their new DVDs, they told me they are infact working on a great release of 'Goodbye Pork Pie' An awesome film which involves two guys (one of which now features in a NZ Music Video making fun of the film) avoiding police in their yellow mini.
The NZFC told me that the film makers are now working on finding all of their scrap footage to include in the future DVD release. I cant wait for it to be released! Possible Audio Commentary too.

NZFC Releasing DVDs
BadTaste_nz @ 9:33 pm EST
Thats right, it is very possible that the New Zealand Film Commission is starting to release the older NZ films to the new stage of DVD. After a look in a local book shop, I saw a title I recognised, which was 'An Angel At My Table', which is a very old NZ Flick, at the top of the DVD cover was 'New Zealand Film Collection' which could get many NZ film fans excited.
Could this mean that NZFC will make their own version of Peter Jacksons films on DVD? such as BT,BD,MTF??? Only time will tell. As for me, I'll be contacting the film comm about this very matter.

Where the **** is PJ?
sam @ 12:24 pm EST
Well, the OSCAR nominations have been announced, and although The Two Towers has received a nomination for Best Picture, as well as nominations in visual effects and art direction, PJ has not received a nomination for Best Director.
Looking forward to seeing lots of lively debate on the message boards on this one.
