Snaps from Skull Island

9/04/05, 1:25 pm EST - Xoanon

Snaps from Skull Island From the NZ Herald: Here's more shots form Peter Jackson's KING KONG. The countdown for it's Decemeber release is ticking ever closer, with the film heavily into its heavy computer post-production phase. There's no more shots of the big hairy guy yet. But this latest lot of postcards from Skull Island suggest it's just the spot for a holiday filled with romance and adventure and natural wonders. If only they would do (SIC!) something about all that grunting and screaming from the next room... [More]

Dragon*Con 2005 Report

9/03/05, 11:52 pm EST - Xoanon

Kikn regular {8thWonder} sends this in from DragonCon 2005: Wednesday night as I was parusing the boards I came across a post by Yellowstonetim on Atomic's Dragon Con Thread asking what city the con was being held in. Much to my surprise Altaira replied telling YST the con was in Atlanta just 90 minutes south of me! A trip to the Chattanooga CD and DVD exchange and I had the coin to go, threw on my Star Wars logo t-shirt, grabbed my knapsack and roared off to play with the geeks! [More]

Post Production Diary - 15 Weeks To Go

15 weeks to go and the Foley artists are knee deep in mud working on all Foley effects. What is a Foley Artist? These folks are responsible for 99% of the sounds you hear in a movie...ANY sound, from the most mundane coffee cup to the eerie sounds deep inside skull island. They have a ton of creative ways to re-create these sounds, and use everything (including the kitchen sink) at their disposal to achieve it. Take a look! (I want that Venture ship wheel!) Jackson's Rings case may be nearer to settlement

9/01/05, 5:22 pm EST - Xoanon

New Line Cinema's decision to make a landmark payout to veteran Hollywood producer Saul Zaentz over claims against Lord of the Rings profits may boost the chances of settlement of a similar claim by New Zealand director Peter Jackson, an industry commentator says. Zaentz sued the studio last year for $US20 million ($NZ29.3 million) he said was owed from Lord of the Rings (LOTR) profits. Jackson separately sued the studio in March, and is thought to be claiming $US100 million. [More]

Andy Dick Asks Jack Black To Play God For 'First Time'

9/01/05, 5:13 pm EST - Xoanon

HOLLYWOOD — Anyone who has ever spent more than five minutes with Andy Dick has probably questioned the over-the-top comedian's sanity. But for his latest film — and directorial debut — the former "News Radio" star is milking his oddball behavior and taking it straight to the big screen. Although still tentatively titled "Danny Roane: First Time Director," the movie has already wrapped shooting and is in the final stages of post-production. Dick wrote, produced, directed and starred in the flick that will feature a slew of cameos from some of the funny man's comrades. Jack Black included. [More]

Michel Ancel: Beyond Good

8/31/05, 3:04 pm EST - Xoanon

After years of almost uninterrupted disappointment, it's hardly surprising that we shudder almost every time someone mentions movie-to-videogame adaptations. The fact that people are still holding up GoldenEye on N64 as The Way To Do Things eight years on isn't great. Electronic Arts has had a few decent cracks with its The Lord of The Rings titles, but then it soils its own linen with unbelievably shoddy fodder such as Catwoman or the a succession of underwhelming Bond games. Activision almost nailed it with Spider-Man 2, VU Games flopped badly with Van Helsing, The Hulk and Dark Angel and yet got it right with The Chronicles Of Riddick, but for the most part publishers contents themselves with ultra-safe kid-friendly fodder that most of us could do without. So much potential, so little end product. [More]

Oscar's Fight Club

8/30/05, 10:45 pm EST - Xoanon

Even way sexed-up in black spandex, Charlize Theron's twenty-fifth-century assassin, Aeon Flux, looks like putty in the mighty mitt of King Kong. So don't be surprised if the beast kills the beauty in the fall film race. Expect Aeon Flux to ring a few box-office bells, as will Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Chronicles of Narnia and any other damn thing with a franchise behind it, including Saw II. Getting Academy attention is trickier. Audiences are equally fussy. We'll line up for summer junk (Fantastic Four, The Dukes of Hazzard,). But in fall we expect movies to be, well, good. [More]

Ubisoft's Peter Jackson's King Kong Wins Best Of GC PS2 At 2005 Games Convention

8/30/05, 3:56 pm EST - Xoanon

London, UK: August 30, 2005 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world's leading video game publishers, announced that its upcoming interactive game, Peter Jackson's King Kong was awarded the Best GC PS2 award at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany. The prize was selected by a panel of six leading media specialists. More than 134,000 visitors and 280 exhibitors attended the Games Convention 2005, making it the biggest game fair in Europe. Describing the game, the jury shared why they selected the game as Best of GC PS2: "Peter Jackson's King Kong shows how an intense game environment can be created when a game designer and movie director collaborate on a video game project. The action adventure game transports players inside the movie and allows them to see what's possible in a video game, in contrast to movies. The world in which King Kong lives seems so real and enthralling that players will do everything they can to survive." [More]
