The keen eyed may also spot the first movie blooper in the bustling New York street photo... a pair of right-hand drive vehicles (as noted first by KiKn regular 'mikrokong'). Director Peter Jackson, currently inspiring King Kong mania, was third, but he was an exception, with most television and film personalities getting the thumbs down. Jackson Inspired Undead Helmers

6/29/05, 7:44 pm EST - Xoanon

Twin Australian filmmakers Michael and Peter Spierig told SCI FI Wire that they were inspired to make their zombie thriller film Undead by audience reaction to some of New Zealand director Peter Jackson's early schlock horror movies. "One of [my] best movie experiences was seeing Braindead [aka Dead Alive] in Brisbane," Peter Spierig said in an interview (he and his brother, Michael, both attended Brisbane's Queensland College of Art). "The audience had never seen anything like that, and it was so good. The audience went nuts." [More]

New York wins King Kong premiere

6/29/05, 7:36 pm EST - Xoanon

The world premiere of Peter Jackson's King Kong will be in New York. Wellington is being considered for the Australasian debut. After months of speculation, Kong's Hollywood backers have confirmed the New York event. Other decisions, including whether Wellington will host a premiere for the $200 million movie, have still to be made. Universal Pictures vice-chairman Marc Shmuger is in Wellington for meetings with Jackson. The world premiere was an opportunity for New York "to welcome Kong back . . . New York is very excited about the opportunity and the city is one of our partners on the film. They are lending extensive resources to really make the return of Kong to New York City an official event," he said. [More]

PJ Interview on TVNZ

6/28/05, 10:59 pm EST - Xoanon

Thanks to {TheWonders} & Gandalf for the video and transcript! PJ: King Kong is important to me, I think for the most fundamental reason, which is if I hadn’t seen it I don’t think I’d have become a film maker. I think it’s that important. The moment when I decided that film making was what I wanted to do with my life was when I was nine years old and I saw King Kong on TV. It had such a profound impression on my, you know, my nine year old self. [More]

The trailer to Jackson's remake of King Kong was seen by a worldwide audience of more than 100 million yesterday. What's unusual about the trailer and yesterday's release of stills of the film is how much has been revealed so early, including much footage of the titan ape itself. [More]
