6/23/06, 10:57 am EST - Xoanon

This striking German actor played a kind-hearted Nazi officer in The Pianist and a kind-hearted ship captain in King Kong. Thomas Kretschmann may not be a familiar name to audiences raised on a diet of Hollywood films, but the 44-year-old newcomer has made his mark in American movies with strong supporting roles in major motion pictures. The Vegan Side of Rock

6/22/06, 9:45 pm EST - Xoanon

A hot-dog eating contest, beer bongs, heavy-metal karaoke: These would seem to be Jack Black's definition of a good time, at least if you assume that the sort of vulgar, uncensored characters the actor has inhabited in films like "School of Rock" and "High Fidelity" bear some relation to who he is off-screen. Anyone who has seen him perform as half of the debauched musical duo Tenacious D, in concert or in the HBO series about the band, knows that this wild-and-crazy guy makes Steve Martin look positively G-rated. But on a recent night off from promoting his latest adventure, "Nacho Libre," the $35 million comedy about the Mexican freestyle fighting sport called lucha libre, Mr. Black revealed another side. Jackson mooted as NZ frontman

6/18/06, 9:33 am EST - Xoanon

New Zealand tourism should try to get extra mileage out of the Hollywood-backed pulling power of blockbuster director Peter Jackson. With The Lord Of The Rings publicity rush over, Jackson himself has been suggested as a campaign frontman to boost visitor numbers from the celebrity focused United States. The Wellington film director should be asked to step into a role similar to that once occupied by Crocodile Dundee promoting Australia, says Michael McClelland an American travel operator selling New Zealand holidays. He envisaged Jackson in a barefoot stance holding a glass of New Zealand wine tempting North American travellers here, and had suggested the idea to Tourism New Zealand boss George Hickton. [More]
