Dreamworks, Peter Jackson unite

5/05/07, 10:14 am EST - Xoanon

Committing at least $65 million, DreamWorks in association with Film 4 has won the bidding for Jackson's bigscreen adaptation of Alice Sebold's best-selling 2002 tome "The Lovely Bones." Announcement came early Friday evening, capping a weeklong auction that had three other majors vying for Jackson's project as well-Warner Bros. Pictures, Universal and Sony. Jackson is set to begin lensing in October in Pennsylvania and New Zealand from a script he co-wrote with "Lord of the Rings" collaborators Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh. Paramount, which owns DreamWorks, will distribute "Bones" worldwide, with Jackson promising to deliver the film by the fourth quarter 2008. [More]

New Kongcept Art

5/02/07, 9:41 pm EST - Xoanon

From wetanz.com: Today's concept art comes from Weta Designer Warren Mahy. He designed this piece with Anne Darrow in mind. Warren explains: "This is a muppet-looking weirdo lizard bat. That’s pretty much what this is all about. The original thought was to combine mammal and predator-like characteristics into a creature that needed to be large enough to look like it could successfully hassle Anne Darrow and annoy Kong." Warren's work with us has involved a number of projects, including The Lord of the Rings as well as King Kong. Primarily working in the concept design area of the workshop with tasks ranging from free hand illustration to 3D maquette sculpture to computer assisted colour rendering, Warren works a variety of designs mediums. While at Weta his experience also included the management of the manufacture and installation of large scale sculptures, sculpting of scale figures and busts. [More]

New Kongcept Art

4/28/07, 3:04 pm EST - Xoanon

From wetanz.com: Today's Kongcept art work is from Designer Greg Broadmore, who came up with a leggy creature that could lose count of their own limbs if they weren't careful. Here's what Greg had to say on this piece: "This is one of many Pit creature designs we did, again a crustacean, in fact I think all the pit crawlers I did were crustaceans. No wait, I did a couple of slug/worm things. "The Pit had to be filled with crazy-go-nuts creatures from hell. Crustaceans made more sense at a large scale than insects or arachnids. Not that anything in that pit made a lot of sense." "Christian Pearce and I have a thing for crabs; we drew heaps of them as designs for the pits, in fact we joined a local street gang called the Crabs before we started at Weta. We sidled sideways everywhere, cold pinching fools. Especially the Carvers (spits). "Back on topic, this drawing is kinda Coconut Crab/ Lobster inspired with a spider crab leg thing going on. Coconut crabs (or robber crabs) are pretty cool looking, really solid beasts. Google them, they kick ar*e. Mean as bro." [More]
