Catch 'Negadon' in Ithica, New York

3/21/06, 10:16 pm EST - Xoanon

From AICN: For those who haven't heard about NEGADON, it's a highly artistic, brilliantly directed and designed CGI piece - very similar in introspect and tone to the original Japanese edit of GODZILLA. Take these sensibilities, throw in some Mecha influence, and you get a twenty-something minute movie that is truly remarkable. [More] [negadonattacks.com]

The son of King Kong and Gustave Doré Ray Harryhausen discusses his influences for creating some of film's most memorable animation

3/19/06, 2:18 pm EST - Xoanon

Ray Harryhausen's name is synonymous with stop-motion animation. From "Mighty Joe Young" (1949) through "Clash of the Titans" (1981), he created a menagerie of memorable monsters, aliens, dinosaurs and mythological creatures ranging from the Ymir in "20 Million Miles to Earth" (1957) and the Grand Lunar in "First Men in the Moon" (1964) to the living skeletons in "Jason and the Argonauts" (1963) and the title creature in "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" (1953). Stop-motion animation -- which involves photographing objects (often puppets) frame by frame in different positions, then combining them to create the illusion of movement -- is undergoing a renaissance, including the Oscar-winning "Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit," whose director, Nick Park, has paid tribute to Harryhausen's influence. After working in relative obscurity for decades, Harryhausen is clearly enjoying the belated accolades. [More]

1983 KONG Party Pictures

3/19/06, 1:51 pm EST - Xoanon

1983 KONG Party Dan Fiebiger writes: Thought all you KONG-Peter-Jackson fans might maybe be interested in this: In March, 1983, at the Chinese Theater, there was a big 50th Anniversary KONG party, celebrating the release of the original 1933 film. Most everyone who worked on the film, or loved the film, or was related to someone who worked on the film, or worked in special effects, was there. I (now a retired efx animator) was there also, and shot many photos of the event, and shot the original KONG models (now owned by Peter Jackson) at Forre Ackerman's place later on. [More]

3/16/06, 10:25 pm EST - Xoanon

Adrian writes: I was wondering if you could mention in your news section that the film "Guerrilla Distribution" is being made available to download from www.realkong.co.uk. Guerrilla Distribution is a mockumentary about two guerrilla filmmakers who have decided that they are going to rip off Peter Jackson by making King Kong and selling it pretending it to be his version.

Set in the summer of 2005, the documentary crew follow the pair as they desperately try to meet their deadline using every trick they know. Guerrilla Distribution features appearances from Brian Sibley, Ramon Rivero and Sir Ian Mckellen. It is aimed at fans of Peter Jackson, King Kong, and Lord of the Rings and so should be welcomed by those who visit your website. [More]
