MSN Movies Talks Kong

1/03/05, 10:07 pm EST - Xoanon

MSN Talks King Kong One of the most iconic movie images of the 20th Century was the monster ape King Kong holding the beautiful Fay Wray in one hand and swatting away biplanes with the other as he stood atop the Empire State Building. Fresh off the landmark success of his "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Peter Jackson is getting the chance to remake the classic tale he's loved for years. Ignoring the "modern" 1976 version (featuring Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange), Jackson's movie will take place as the original did -- in the 1930's. This time, Naomi Watts stars as the object of the ape's affection with Jack Black, Adrien Brody and Andy Serkis (providing the movements for Kong) rounding out the cast. With Jackson's special effects team at Weta Digital in tow, get ready for a dramatic return to Skull Island. [More]

New York Set Details Dadastep writes: Are you interested in some pics of the New York set in Wellington. I read about gandalf and his distance spy pics but I have some closer up ones. The paint is going on thick and fast transforming wood to stone, not an easy feat. It's really amazing what the pros can do and we all know PJ has the best of the best. [More]

More 'D' Concert Coverage

1/02/05, 11:38 am EST - Xoanon

Spooky Chicken writes: Don't know if this was reported by previous NZ concert goers but at the Sydney tenacious D gig, the 'D' performed a song entitled 'King Kong'. It was an epic song of monstrous proportions, although they didn't appear to have constructed an ending. A point was made of this. Mr Black told the audience that the song had been presented to Peter Jackson, and whilst he did in fact like it, the somewhat...'moving' song will not actually appear in King Kong. [More]

Village Wall Set Update

12/28/04, 11:34 pm EST - Xoanon

Village Wall Set Update Gandalf writes: After visiting the New York set I returned to the Village Wall set to find the wall... gone! A largely empty lot is all that remains, with a lonely blue screen propped up by a few shipping containers. What is left however, is the part of the set with old village ruins in front (or behind?) where the wall stood. All the statues have been removed, but several stone buildings and stairs still remain - some parts intact and at odd angles. Also on site are the two massive skulls that once might have flanked a path or entrance to the village(?) - one of which has broken and fallen down. While much of the set dressing is probably gone, I'm sure you'll agree that what's left still looks impressive! [More]

New York Set Update

12/28/04, 11:23 pm EST - Xoanon

New York Set Update Gandalf writes: Wellington's New York was relatively quiet today (Wed 29), but nevertheless, progress is clearly visible since my last visit. The part of the set which appears to match Mickey's Burlesque house from an earlier PD has a blue undercoat, while further along that same block a facade appears to be finished. The subway entrance also looks a little different, while the tram (near the marquee and site office) has now been shielded from prying eyes by a black cover! The last image is a large panorama showing the entire set. [More]
