Kong Extended Edition Region 3 DVD Woes
11/19/06, 2:51 pm EST - Xoanon
Roy from Hong Kong writes: I just bought the Region 3 (Era Films HK distributed, Universal published) 3 Disc Extended Edition dvd set. Only Disc 3 is from the Region 1 set, the rest are leftovers from the Theatrical Cut 2 Disc SE!
I called the distributor and the are indifferent to it! Told me I should have read the running time in the back and ignore the Front Cover that says in BLOCK LETTERS "DELUXE EXTENDED EDITION".
Xoanon here, try contacting Era Films HK & Universal Hong Kong and voice your complaints!!
New Kong DVD Has Surprises
11/19/06, 2:24 pm EST - Xoanon
Michael Pellerin, who produced the deluxe extended edition DVD of
Peter Jackson's King Kong, told SCI FI Wire that the disc features some secret bonus treats—commonly known as easter eggs—including a musical performance by one of the film's stars. "There is a song by
Jack Black," Pellerin said in an interview. "Go find that one. It's awesome. It is absolutely awesome. ... I remember him rehearsing it when he was off set. It was a whole planned thing. Anyway, it will finally see the light of day. It's on there somewhere. It's an original song, too. It's not something from [Black's off-screen musical act] Tenacious D or anything. It's something specifically for Kong." [

TV Watch: Giganto: The Real King Kong
11/17/06, 1:04 pm EST - Xoanon
Tonight on The History Channel's "Decoding the Past" they look into 'Giganto'..the real King Kong! From the website:
An exploration of the Giganto (King Kong) legend using modern science, technology, and historic eyewitness accounts. Gigantopithecus (the Latin term for "Giant Ape") is believed to have existed 9 to 5-million years ago and supposedly was around 10-feet tall. Some fossil evidence shows that it may have lived in China or India. Scientists of varying fields will attempt to genetically connect Giganto to modern-day creatures from around the world. Could Bigfoot be a relative? Forensic testing, extensive scientific research, 3-D animation, and body reconstruction will help determine the true mystery behind this prehistoric ape. [

The prime of Adrien Brody
11/13/06, 3:46 pm EST - Xoanon
Adrien Brody is not such a good actor that he can stifle his yawns. Perhaps it's the plate of scones and clotted cream he has inhaled during the course of our interview that has exhausted him. Or perhaps it's the fact he has been talking about his new film, Hollywoodland, to various journalists for two days now. Or perhaps it's me. 'I'm just tired,' he mumbles from behind his napkin, as his watery green eyes search the bar of the Dorchester hotel for the not one, but two PR people who accompanied us to the table and assured him that they would be back to pick him up within the hour. Weta evolves into global giant
11/13/06, 3:43 pm EST - Xoanon
Evolution takes strange turns on islands. Sheltered from competition from established mainland creatures, species can grow freakishly large. New Zealand, for example, evolved the giant flightless moa and the world's largest eagle. Perhaps the same process accounts for the growth of New Zealand's vfx giant, Weta Digital. Less than a decade ago, Weta was a midsize vfx operation of some 120 people, mostly working for a local filmmaker. But that filmmaker was
Peter Jackson, and when he went on to become the creative force behind four huge visual effects blockbusters, the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "King Kong," Weta grew into one of the world's most successful visual effects shops, with more than 400 staffers. One hint of Weta's stature is the launch of the AnimfxNZ symposium. It's the only such event in the Asia-Pacific area with a partnership from the Visual Effects Society. Now that Jackson seems to be taking a pause from tentpoles, can Weta survive competition with the rest of the world? [
