Take a look at this map for a clearer picture. [More]

New Kong Set Being Built?

10/31/04, 11:00 am EST - Xoanon

New Kong Set Being Built? Gandalf writes: With filming moving from Lyall Bay, I've roamed a little further for these photos. The first few are various views around Stone Street. In the eastern suburbs little signs with black/orange arrows on them point the way to the sets. From the front entrance to the main studio you get a glimpse of the big blue screen where the replica Venture was, past the big concrete sound stage. The back of that screen is supported by the big container wall that we've seen before in one of the production diaries. The remaining photos are of the suspected new Kong set in Seaview that 'Silmarien' spoke of. Not a lot of action there today (Sun 31), but you can clearly see the fake buildings being constructed and supported by... you guessed it - more shipping containers! No concrete evidence that it is a Kong set, but it certainly looks that way and is being constructed about the right time in the filming schedule. [More]

Final Days At Skull Island

10/31/04, 10:37 am EST - Xoanon

Final Shooting Days for Skull Island Outdoors Gandalf writes: "And... CUT!" Filming has now concluded on the Skull Island set in Lyall Bay. Since Friday, the catering marquee, small fleet of caravans cars and trucks have all left and the set now sits empty. The first couple of photos give you a final look at the rock and moss covered bank getting some close attention on Thu 28th, and are the last before I was shot at during my escape! The remaining pics from today (Sun 31) show some more of the set detail including a better look at the long blue screen used for some running and shooting action. The final photo shows the empty lot where the support operation was based. Production here has been a treat to watch. Thanks PJ and happy birthday! [More]

KIKN Presents: KONG FILES

10/28/04, 4:14 pm EST - Xoanon

KongisKing.net would like to give a big welcome to our new staff writer, John Michlig! John's new column, THE KONG FILES, will explore Kong legend and lore compiled from over a decade of research on all things related to the Eighth Wonder of the World.

He's the author of IT CAME FROM BOB'S BASEMENT, and is currently working with filmmaker James Mansfield on a documentary entitled EIGHTH WONDER: THE AMAZING TRUE STORY OF CARL DENHAM AND THE BEAST-GOD OF SKULL ISLAND, the startling details of which he promises to share right here in the very near future.

John's first article, 'Kong IS King,' is now online:

It's not a comfortable admission, but one I have to make right off the bat: I didn't get to view the original "King Kong" in its entirety until I was 18 years old. Your pity is gratefully accepted... [More]

Production Diary: Day 36

10/28/04, 10:00 am EST - Xoanon

Production Diary: Day 36

War has been declared on KongisKing.net!! Peter Jackson and his King Kong crew have been checking up on us and are VERY interested in speaking to our Kong spy Gandalf. They deem his magical intrusion as a complete stab in the back after all the work PJ did for him on Lord of the Rings. Watch Carter Nixon attempt to catch our spy, and fail!!! Peter and Jack Black completely ham up the screen with their counter-terrorism maneuvers on the set. These guys seriously know how to have fun! Oh, and there is a little bit of footage about some Kong movie they are making, Adrien Brody and Andy Serkis with machine guns, the Venture crew running around...not too sure what that is about. New York Set Being Built?

10/28/04, 9:42 am EST - Xoanon

Silmarien writes: I took a drive around in the Seaview industrial area of Lower Hutt this afternoon and I could swear that there is a very large set being built around there. It looked as if it could be city streets (maybe New York?) with what looked like Art Deco styling around doors and windows etc. My camera died and I don't have another one yet, but it would be great if someone could get some shots of the set. You have to drive down Seaview Road until you see the railway lines crossing the road and then turn right up a little alley way and you are only a few metres away from the set.

'33 Kong Producer Selznick Finally Gets His Star

10/27/04, 12:49 pm EST - Xoanon

(AP) Even though he produced "Gone with the Wind" and other movie classics, David O. Selznick never had his own star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. That oversight was corrected Tuesday when the Producers Guild sponsored the late producer's star on Hollywood Boulevard, a half-block from Grauman's Chinese theater where many of his films played. How much for King Kong of wine?

10/25/04, 10:40 am EST - Xoanon

Skull Island Shooting

10/25/04, 10:33 am EST - Xoanon

Skull Island Shooting Gandalf writes: I took these two photos today during a weekend break in filming. The impressive moss and vine covered bank has been given a protective cover from some windy and wet weather on Sunday and early this morning (Mon 25). The other photo is of more interest and shows the skeleton statue part of the set, now also covered in vegetation, after the large screens were removed following filming. As well as the upright statue, you can now see another skeleton lying on the ground - possibly crumbled with age, or broken off perhaps? [More]

A frightening face they'll never forget

10/24/04, 10:34 am EST - Xoanon

Sigourney Weaver's favourite movie monster wasn't in Alien. Never mind that the 1979 horror classic, regarded as one of the scariest films ever, launched Weaver's career. She has a soft spot for a giant hairy ape. With Halloween on the horizon, a number of actors and filmmakers at last month's Toronto International Film Festival were asked to tell us about their most beloved feature creatures. [More]
