Gandalf is an RPG
Berendir @ 6:54 pm EST

Not long after i posted that news that "Gandalf", a game being made by Smeagol17, was not going to be an RPG, Smeagol17 messaged me telling me the plans have changed once again.

Anyhow, the story is that he was offered some help by someone to create this game, and so his plans have shifted again. I keep the news about Gandalf not being an RPG up, just in case he messages me again, telling me that the plan just changed, (will save me some time.)

Gandalf is not an RPG
Berendir @ 11:15 am EST

Well Smeagol17 sent in some more news on his game, "Gandalf". I'll post it so you can all see what he's up to:

I've decided to change gandalf entirely. It will not be an rpg. Instead, I have decided that Gandalf will be a special campaign with different scenarios for Age of Empires. Each game will consist of 5 levels....or
campaigns....and will be more like a tolkien converted war and strategy game.....sort of like what Gurthaur is doing with War of the Ring. I also have some excellent news: I have almost completed the Isengaurd level for Gandalf: Sauron Defeated, the second game in the series, and it will not take me long to complete Gandalf: Return of the Shadow, so expect the first
game in 2-3 months time!

Also, here is a list of the levels in the first game:

Gandalf: Return Of The Shadow:

The Journey To Bag End- in which you must reach Bag End safely to see Frodo

The Ride to Isengaurd- In which you must reach Isengaurd safely

The Attack at Weatherop- In Which you must reach Weatherop and then fend of the Ringwraiths

The Wrath of the Cahadras- In which you lead the Fellowship through the fell Hounds of Sauron, and through the wrath of the Cahadras.

The Bridge of Kahzad-dum- In which you must lead the Fellowship through Moria, fight off the Orcs in the Chamber and reach the Bridge of Kahzad-dum safely, where the game will end and a short story will appear telling the battle between Gandalf and the Balrog.

Legal actions against Sierra?
Berendir @ 12:24 am EST

DarthCaesar has struck again, sending word to me of this news, which comes from the RPG Vault at IGN. Heres part of this interview:

Some days ago, we became aware of an unsubstantiated report that stated legal action was under way involving Sierra On-Line and The Saul Zaentz Company, which conducts business as Tolkien Enterprises. The matter in question was apparently the license granted to Sierra by The Saul Zaentz Company for the creation of computer games based on the literary works of the renowned fantasy writer, J.R.R. Tolkien. Sierra is known to have started development of two titles using this license. One was Orcs: Revenge of the Ancient, a strategy title that was cancelled last September. The other is a game in which we have a great interest, the persistent online world called Middle-earth.

Interplay's Gaming Rights
Berendir @ 12:33 pm EST

Well, i received an email from DarthCaeser about Interplay's Gaming Rights. Here it is:

Master Ringer Gaming Informant DarthCaeser here with this small piece of news, according to my sources Interplay is very close to acquiring the rights for games based on the movies, good news for us gamers as Interplay has made quite a number of good games.

This news isn't confirmed, just reported by the self proclaimed Master Ringer Gaming Informant ; )

But if his information is right, it is indeed good news.

Music in "Gandalf"
Berendir @ 12:25 pm EST

When news came in about Smeagol18's, "The Trilogy", being cancelled, Smeagol17, (an entirely different smeagol), sent in news he was constructing a new game, or two. He just sent me an email on the music in one of his games:

Just like to inform you on a bit of news concerning the "Gandalf" games:

The music in the Games will be from the Final Fantasy Games, namely 1, 2, and 3. I am also asking for someone to compose a special Gandalf "main Theme" piece.

Concerning the Look and feel of the Games:

It will be a lot like the old final fantasy games with a mix of Chrono Trigger, giving it a classic RPG look!

The Ring Game
Berendir @ 10:38 pm EST

I received an email from Sydnee about, "The Ring Game." I asked for some more information about this game, which he seems to think is definitely good. Heres what he sent me:

I came across it in an ordering book and someone else ordered as a gift to me. So I'm sure where I got it, because I didn't pay too much attention.
I do know that Amazon.com carries it and I think Columbia House does also. Anyway, on to this masterpiece of a game whose full name is Ring The Legend Of The Nibelungen and is based on Richard Wagner's opera, The Ring Cycle. I would say that this game is Tolkien thrown in the blender with pure Norse
mythology and poured over a serving of Star Wars.
In this game, who are taken out of the 21st century and immersed in the 40th century. You have four characters: Alberich the tyrant dwarf, Loge the
fire spirit, Siegmund who is half man and half wolf, and lastly Brunnhilde who is the daughter of a god named Wotan.
One thing that's good about this game, is you can travel to one world, get sick of it after trying to figure out the puzzles, then go to the next one but be prepared to change CD's often (4 CD's).
The score is performed by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. The voices are well done, graphic are beautiful, the color is spectacular, 360 degree
viewing range. Instead of the story coming to just one point, there could be many endings just like in the Lord of the Rings when Frodo left The Grey
Havens that was his ending and others were affected.
Of course there are more characters and if you want to learn more about this game, you visit: www.redorb.com and I hope you will enjoy this game because it is a must for Tolkien fan.

well there you have it! If anyone else plays this game, and has anything to say about it, send an email.

The Fall of "The Trilogy"
Berendir @ 2:55 pm EST

Well gaming fans, this comes as no great surprise to me. But, just incase anyone out there wasn't aware, "The Trilogy", by Platus Productions, has been officially cancelled. Smeagol17 brought this to my attention by sending me Smeagol18,s (creator of the Trilogy's) last statement. Here is what the creator had to say about the projects downfall:

Greetings Trilogy Fans:

AS YOU PROBABLY HAVE DEDUCED FROM THE LACK OF NEWS ON THE TRILOGY PAGE, THE GAME HAS BEEN CANCELLED. THIS WAS DUE TO SEVERAL REASONS INCLUDING THE DIFFUCULTY IN GETTING A LICENSE FROM TOLKIEN ENTERPRIZES, THE DIFFICULTY IN MANAGING A GAME WITH VOLUNTEERING WORKERS OVER THE NET, AND MY BUSINESS IN GOING TO COLLEGE NEXT YEAR. I ASSUME THAT DUE TO THE POPULARITY OF THE UPCOMING MOVIES THAT THERE WILL BE EVEN BETTER GAMES MADE BY PROFFESSIONAL COMPANIES THAT WILL EASE YOUR HUNGER FOR TOLKIEN GAMES.

I WILL STILL BE AROUND OUR FAV TOLKIEN MOVIE SITES, SO WATCH FOR ME THERE. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND SPECIAL THANKS TO XOANON OF TheOneRing.net, JORAM OF Ringbearer, MATT OF THE Tolkien Movie News Site, AND ARAM OF Imladris.

Well, in the wake of this bad, yet not unexpcted news, there arrives new hope of LOTR games. Smeagol17 also sent me a message about his own projects. Here it is:

I myself am making two LOTR rpg's: Gandalf: Return of the Shadow and Gandalf: Sauron Defeated. The player will take the role of our favorite
wizard! ROTS will feature Gandalf's quest from obtaining the Erebor Ket from Thror in Dol Guldur, The Lonely Mountain Quest, to his fall in battle with Balrog of Khazad-Dum in Moria. SD will feature the player as the newly resurrected Gandalf the White and his quest from the Battle of Helm's Deep, The Fall of Isengaurd, The Seige of Gondor and the Final Battle at the Black Gate. I am currently looking for background painters and sprite designers and animators. If anyone is interested please mail me: Smeagol7,at nagoda@ica.net and all pics must be in JPEG format.
