FOTR update
DarthCaeser @ 7:07 pm EST
Well, better late then never. Voodoo Extreme posted an update on the development of the WXP game, the Fellowship of the Ring. Posted it over a month ago, doh! I've received some more recent info on the development of FOTR, which I'll be posting as soon as I can get some details. This will have to tide you over until then, just a bit of a warning, the Voodoo Extreme article contains some not-so-nice language. "Work on Fellowship of the Ring is coming along great. Everyone at WXP is putting in 110% effort to make FOTR totally kick ass -- it going to be worth buying an XBox for, just to see how stunningly gorgeous this game is! Everything from the grassy knolls of Hobbiton to the darkest depths of Moria just oozes atmosphere. The characters are coming along nicely too -- in fact we just finished testing our facial animation technology and Frodo has sprung eerily to life. In addition to lip sync, he can express a full range of emotions and reactions to his environment, and the realism is almost scary. On top of all the art stuff, the Design team has really come through in the gameplay department. From the minute you pick up the controller and start running around, the game is going to be fun. Although there's tons of stuff to do in the world, even just running around and interacting with the environment will be a treat. It's tricky to capture that "console feel" where you pick up the controller and it instantly feels good, but we're well on our way to putting the final polish on it. Wish I could say more at this point, but we're all incredibly busy -- we've got a killer game to make!" [More]
Lack of updates...
DarthCaeser @ 6:45 pm EST
I'm sure some of are wondering why I haven't posted any news in over a month. I just got back from a trip to the other side of the country to visit family. I was also supposed to check out WXP and the FOTR demo as a guest of Sierra, didn't work out unfortunately, but rest assured I'm going to keep trying, and I'll be posting my thoughts on the game as soon as I get a look. Well, I'm back and I'll be posting all the news I can get my hands on, so if you find something, send it in. :) Until then, DarthCaeser

Media Watch: White Dwarf
Xoanon @ 9:54 am EST
From: Rick
I've just recieved this month's copy of White Dwarf, the Games Workshop magazine. In it there's some details and a great picture of the new LOTR models in production at Games Workshop. See Elf.jpg (attatched) for a picture of what the High Elven warriors will look like (we've seen them before in the trailer but here's a clearer look at their weapons and armour). The miniatures are being sculpted, in case you want to know, by Alan and Michael Perry, Gary Morley and Brian Nelson of Games Workshop.

Decipher Holds The Lord of the Rings TCG Playtest @ Origins 2001
Xoanon @ 9:34 pm EST
Decipher Holds The Lord of the Rings TCG Playtest @ Origins 2001 By John Kaufeld Friday morning at the 2001 Origins Game Fair dawned clear and bright, but eager anticipation thrummed in the air. Amidst the noise and activity of the busy convention hall, a determined and secretive band of gaming adventurers set their eyes on a seemingly unreachable goal. They plotted the day's movements to bring them ever nearer to the summit of their quest. Finally, as the first shadows of late afternoon wound around the unsuspecting city, these hardy travelers joined with their fellows – now nearly 40 strong – and converged upon an unassuming room inside a local inn. And so it was that these lucky souls, who braved the perilous journey to Ohio and signed all manner of obtuse legal paperwork along the way, became the first humans outside of Decipher (along with your faithful correspondent, the party's lone elf) to lay eyes and hands upon the upcoming The Lord of the Rings Trading Card Game (LotR). Knizia and Howe Win Award
Xoanon @ 10:13 am EST
From: Dave Farquhar I Was pleasantly surprised to see my article for the July edition of Games Magazine had been picked up by your site. I was particularly interested in letting people see the difference between the playtest version, created from clipart, and the final John Howe artwork. When John's work first arrives it is difficult for Reiner to drag me back to the latest project, as I am eagerly taking in all the details. A couple of announcements related to the LOTR Board Game. Firstly news of an award (text from the publishers) 'Sophisticated Games would like to congratulate Reiner Knizia and John Howe, the author and illustrator of the Lord of the Rings boardgame, which, in Berlin last night, was awarded the I have attached a photo from the presentation. Reiner Knizia on left, John Howe on right, representative from Kosmos (German game publisher) in centre. Secondly, an expansion for the game will be released in October. Not sure how much I can say about it at present, so will restrict my description to the fact that it will add more challenges to the Fellowship. Not the least of these will be the appearance of enemies - I have seen John's illustartions for these - wow.
