Mediawatch: Computer Gaming World
Calisuri @ 8:29 am EST

Ringer Saint sends in this from the most recent publishing of Computer Gaming World magazine:

From the "Inside Wargaming" column, article titled "Rip Van Winkle: Wargame designers fall asleep in 1970, wake up in 2001."

"A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being introduced to noted German boardgame designer Reiner Knizia's Lord of the Rings (Hasbro/Parker Brothers). Knizia is a legend in boardgaming circles, and after 10 minutes of playing Lord of the Rings, it was easy to see why. Using only four understated and standard looking boards, two decks of cards, and some cardboard markers, Knizia managed to capture the essence of the drama in Tolkien's story and package it in a clever game system that makes each play-through different and challenging. The gameplay is also cooperative. Can you say 'genius'?"

From personal experience and reports from fans, we can also say the board game is pure enjoyment.

Brad Dourif interview on GameSpy
DarthCaeser @ 2:01 pm EST

GameSpy.com has an interview with Brad Dourif, who plays Grima Wormtongue in the new movies, about his role in Myst III. There's also a blurb about the movies, Thanks to Phil for the tip:

"GameSpy: Besides Myst III, you've also appearing in the Lord Of The Rings movies, in which you play Grima Wormtongue? Have you seen any of the first film yet?

Brad Dourif: It looks great. Everything that I saw that they were doing live was wonderful, and I saw half an hour of the first one, and it looked great. If it holds up the way it looks like it will, then all three movies should be pretty darn good." [More]

LOTR: The Game Instructions
Xoanon @ 5:56 pm EST

From: O

Although the recent two-player Kosmos game, LotR: The Search, is not yet available in an English edition, the "Boardgame Geek" Web site recently posted an English translation of the rules (unfortunately in MS Word format, for no good reason), which gives a pretty good idea of what the game is like.

Dourif on Myst III: Exile
Xoanon @ 8:33 pm EST

From: M&M

As you know, Brad Dourif (Grima) stars as the antagonist, Saavedro, in Myst III: Exile, the latest in the popular PC game series. I have just completed the game, and Mr. Dourif (sporting Grimaesque hair!) turns in a remarkable performance! If you enjoy solving puzzles more than blastin' aliens, I highly recommend it!
