One Ring to rule them all...
DarthCaeser @ 12:43 am EST

One Deck to find them.
One Path to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them.

This interesting announcement was made on Decipher's LOTR Message Board by a fellow named Tim:

"As a reward for all the patience and enthusiasm shown on this Lord of the Rings discussion list, the first information about the game is being posted right here, right now.

Although much debate has centered around whether the Lord of the Rings TCG would be a one-deck or two-deck system, and there are certainly lots of opinions about it... the official word is out.

One deck.

The deck will contain both Fellowship and Shadow elements which have an independent, yet interconnected relationship. Both components impact the game as you travel down an Adventure Path that unfolds before you. Neither you nor your opponents (notice the plural here :-) will be able to predict the exact path you will take as your Fellowship travels towards the ultimate goal of destroying the One Ring.

Yes, the game supports multiple players. The Lord of the Rings TCG has a core design that supports two or more players without fundamental changes in rules, winning condition or deck structure. Not only will you be able to sit and play against your favorite opponent, but you can also add a friend or two... or three... or four....

Look for more information in the coming weeks. Thanks for the patience, the commitment, and the energy. This is just the beginning." [More]

IGN interview now available to general public!
DarthCaeser @ 3:32 pm EST

The IGN interview with the co-founder of WXP, Patrick Moyniham, is now available on IGN free of charge.

Patrick Moyniham: "Our first reaction was to develop more of a hardcore RPG based on the Tolkien license, but we were concerned that a full-blown RPG might intimidate some people. We really wanted the game to appeal to as many people as possible, so we chose to approach the material from more of an action/adventure perspective. The game is a 3rd person action/adventure with the player assuming the persona of Frodo Baggins. Gameplay includes realtime combat, both melee and ranged. Frodo also has a variety of items and runes at his disposal, and the ability to summon help from other members of the Fellowship. And don’t forget The One Ring…"

So what are you waiting for? Go read the whole thing. Thanks to Scorpio for the tip. [More]

Runescape
Berendir @ 6:08 pm EST

I was sent word about a Multiplayer Online game called Runescape, and I went and played for a few minutes. The reason I took an interest was that the person told me the game was based on the Lord of the Rings, a very appropriate topic for me to look into.

Upon further review I found no similarities save that there is mithril armor *very rare, very durable and light armor that Dwarves fashion in Middle Earth*.

The game is FREE, which is good, and the grahpics are blandish, but not altogether untolerable. What can you expect though from a free online game? It's worth a look, and if anyone out there has any more similarities or ways i can link the game to Lord of the Rings email me at Berendir@theonering.net

National Tolkien-based Battle Game in Ohio, June 17-23
DarthCaeser @ 1:31 pm EST

Sean Richey from Dagorhir Battle Games sent in word of "Ragnarok". Here's the info from their site:

"Ragnarok is Dagorhir's famous annual regional war. For one week each year, the Realms of Dagorhir throughout the country gather for the final glorious battle: Ragnarok! Leave the real world behind and enter a realm of mighty heroes. A realm of the fantastic where warrior maidens and grizzled veterans fight side by side with Elves and Orcs. Ragnarok is a week-long extravaganza of mass melee and fun. Ragnarok is a living, breathing celebration of Tolkien's works and of the European history that inspired those works. This event draws hundreds of Tolkien and medieval combat enthusiasts from all over the United States. Triumphs and defeats, parades and parties, tournaments and pit fighting, belly dancers, song, friendship, bloody battles and more lead up to the final battle and celebration!" [More]

IGN has interview with co-founder of WXP
DarthCaeser @ 10:32 pm EST

IGN Insider, IGN's pay service, has an interview with co-founder of WXP, Patrick Moynihan. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the "Fellowship of the Ring" which is still in early development, but I can't be sure since I'm not a member of IGN Insider. If you are, follow this link. Thanks to Scorpio for the tip.
