Bidding on Lord of the Rings
Berendir @ 8:30 pm EST

Heres some very interesting news which comes from Daily Radar:

A source close to Electronic Arts indicates to DailyRadar.com that the publishing titan is bidding for the LotR license from New Line Cinema.

Several EA business development specialists met with New Line to talk game license while in Los Angeles for the E3 show last month.

Our source was unsure who else is in the running for the LotR license.

If EA secures the rights, it will be for a game or games based solely on the movie of the Lord of the Rings, as New Line does not possess the rights for games based on the books.

More on Brad Douriff in Myst
Berendir @ 18:00 EST

Thanks to Blade for sending this in:

At the E3 conference in mid-May, the game Myst 3, the sequel to the game Riven which of course followed the famous Myst game, was unveiled for the first time. Brad Dourif was featured at the very end of the trailer for the game, whispering "Atrus," the name of the hero of the whole Myst series, with a decidedly wild look in his eyes. I got this from gamecenter.com. Also, Dourif's role in Myst is unknown as of yet. Just thought you'd like to know!

Brad Douriff is playing Grima Wormtounge in the Lord of the Rings movies.

LOTR games for windows
Berendir @ 14:43 EST

I recently received email from Diane, who asked about LOTR games for windows:

I have 3 different computer games which have to do with the LOTR - problem is, they were made for DOS, not for Windows. The game company that did them was ICE - do you know if the games exist for Windows, and if so, where I can get them?

While I do know that there are some LOTR games out there (how good i can't vouch for...) I'm not sure of any good windows ones, and where exactly to find those. If theres anyone that has played any of those windows LOTR games, and knows of a good one, please send the information my way, as well as where it can be found.

What happend to the Trilogy?
Berendir @ 16:39 EST

Awhile back one of the Tolkien games being created was Platus Production's, "The Trilogy". A fan, who apparently goes by the name of Smeagol17, emailed Smeagol88 (head of platus productions), and heres what he got:

a week ago I emailed Smeagol 88 (The creator of the trilogy) asking him whether
a new version will come out. His response was:

sorry, but the trilogy may never continue. If any news does come up, you mayfind
it at www.thetrilogy.8m.com

You can also go Here to find info on the game.

Well I'd have to say from the inactivity of the game, and Smeagol88's reply to that email, that things aren't looking so good for that game. But who knows, maybe in the future things will pick up.

A New Poll
Berendir @ 16:49 EST

Finally, I have changed the poll! Well it took me a long time this time, but with the help of Ringer Staff Member Gamgee, there's a new poll up.

Some of the game systems listed aren't out yet, like Dolphin, Play Station 2, and the Microsoft one (which I'm pretty sure is the correct name for it). Anyhow I'm still hoping they'll make a LOTR game for Atari... even though, from what I hear, Atari isn't quite as big as it once was... which is a darn shame.

Middle Earth Play by Email
Berendir @ 16:13 EST

Kevin sent this in to me. It involves play by email Middle Earth games:

I was wondering if you are aware that there is a Middle Earth PBM (Play by Mail/Email) game available from a company called Harlequin in the UK and Deft in America?

Harlequin info is at http://www.middleearth.co.uk/
and Deft are at http://www.gamesystems.com/

Still waiting...
Enoreth @ 20:43 EST

E3 came and went as fast as it appeared, and still no sign of Middle-earth Online. Rumor has it that 5 other game companies hold the license to create games after the highly anticipated Lord of the Rings movie; their names have not been announced. No news of Sierra's new selection for a development team is presently public. Some say that Sierra has already chosen the team and are already into the brittle design stages of the game, while other fans disagree and are skeptical on the arrival of Middle-Earth Online within the next two years, maybe even three. The world wasn't created in 1 day, we know that, and many dedicated fans are restless. Lets all hope MEO doesn't become another Daikatana. Indeed.

Myst and Tolkien
Berendir @ 17:17 EST

A fan sent in this interesting news about an article that points out some similarities between the game Myst, and Tolkien's world. Heres a piece of that article:

: "I'm thinking of it now like Tolkien. First he did The Hobbit, which revealed to him the possibilities of creating a world. So then he did Lord of the Rings, which was infinitely richer and bigger and more held-together. It made more sense. Riven is our Lord of the Rings. I don't mean as good as, I mean that's its relationship with Myst.") Rand nodded. "We all feel like that. Myst is what it is. It could have been better. This has to be better."

You can read the rest of the article Here.

The fan who brought this to my attention also mentioned Brad Dourif (Gollum) will be in the game Myst II.

A Modest Introduction
Carnage @ 20:03 EST

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am known around these parts as Carnage, and I am a new addition to the Gaming Havens. A great Tolkien fan I am, as well as gaming (currently I am also a writer for theCorporation.co.uk, a wonderful gaming-humor site.)

I know that currently Tolkien game news is sparse, and I'll do my darndest to find it. In the meantime, if any of you loyal fans out there would care to send any tidbits my way, I'd greatly appreciate it!
