Pre-Oscars Decipher Trading Card Game
Strider @ 6:04 am EST

Ted writes: Today (Saturday) I'm running a demo for Decipher's Lord of the Rings Trading Card Game at a Border's Bookstore in Los Angeles. Actually, it's in the City of Industry near a huge movie cinema complex. Today is also the day that the TTT trailer goes out, and that Borders has a large population of people who fit the card game's target demographic, so I expect the event will be popular and a lot of fun. Anyone in the Los Angeles area who wants to learn how to play the Lord of the Rings card game is encouraged to show up. Things should start around 1:00pm, but we'll be there beforehand. There will be free cards given out while supplies last. [More]

Sauron Expansion
DarthCaeser @ 1:56 pm EST

Thanks to Green Books Staffer Ostadan for sending this tidbit in about the next expansion for the LOTR board game; Sauron.

The following article appeared on the USENET newsgroup rec.games.board. Chris Lawson is a Knizia playtester who has an extensive Web page all about Reiner Knizia's many games. Here, he responds to a query from one Don Smith:

Don Smith wrote:
I saw some hints earlier on this board about the second (after Friends and Foes) expansion to the Knizia LOTR board game called Sauron (?).

Yup, been playtesting it a lot.

Does anyone have any idea if this is a "real" prospect?

Yes, very real. The last plan was it contained several expansions, that is, it includes the main 'Sauron' expansion plus one or more additional expansions which can be used with or without any of the existing games resulting in at least eight combinations. I hope at least one of the 'mini expansions' gets included in with Sauron.

It was rumoured that it would allow some of the players to play the "bad guys".

Well, maybe "bad guys" is streching it a bit far. "Bad Guy" would be closer :)

Any info appreciated - sounds like a great addition to a great game!

You will have to wait for the press releases to come out, sorry :)

While it doesn't add any more scenarios, the new expansion does make for a very different game, or games really. No solitaire play but now up to 6 players.

Cheers
Chris

Gamers.com Preview Universal's Fellowship Of The Ring
Strider @ 3:09 pm EST

'Once in a while, you'll play a game with a really cool story. But only one game can honestly boast having the best story...ever. Universal's The Fellowship of the Ring holds exclusive rights to J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Book of the Century." Sure, EA's LOTR game might be based on the hit movie, but this one stuffs in all the Tolkientacular details that the film grossly omitted.' [More]
