Ring Craft Preview
Berendir @ 14:47 EST

A while back I mentioned someone by the name of Strider who was working on another War Craft II Conversion. He isn't nearly as far along as Gurthaur, however It will be interesting to see how his conversion develops in time. He sent me along a preview of the Legolas Icon to look at, which I put in the Game Art section.

View the Legolas Icon Here.

Current Games Section has been Added!
Berendir @ 19:36 EST

A new section has been added to the Gaming Havens. It is a list of games put into categories. It's broken down into MUSH's, MUD's, and Conversions, which are all totally Middle Earth related. And it will also cover a few of the MMORPG's (Massively multiplayer games) out there that are med-evil fantasy based.

Updates on "War of the Ring"
Berendir @ 19:14 EST

Theres some new news from Gurthaur's site on the progress of the War Craft II Conversion (WotR):

RAtt has just gone to work on the Exe file, and he expects to be finished tonight (Read: at the end of the week). I can't wait to try out the new exe, where I'll be able to train spiders, dwarven warriors, the haradrim, dunlendings, easterlings, the Múmakil.. The knight/healer problem will hopefully be fixed also. (The computer did not want to train the old Paladin and the old knight at the same time, so I had to do some restructuring and reassigning of the units.). The old Warhound is now the Knight, but no-one will even notice. The Hobbits are still not decided for yet.

Gaming Events Section
Berendir @ 10:19 EST

A new section has been added to the Gaming Havens, called Gaming Events. So far there have been three live chats held, that were within the gaming community, and those can be found in that section right now. One was with John Race, designer of Orcs Revenge of the Ancient, which unfortunatly was cancelled a few months back. However its still an interesting read.

In the future they'll be interviews, and live chats added to it.

News bits on NWN
Berendir @ 21:50 EST

Heres a bunch of new pieces of information from the Neverwinter Nights Vault:

Single Player/Multi Player

It should be possible for any class to finish the game in single player (3e magic users are a lot more viable at lower levels and your first level will probably be gained in the tutorial, which is single player only and geared specifically to your class).

That said, I'd really encourage you to play through the campaign in multiplayer, first. That's what the campaign is built for and your experience will be that much richer. We want BG2 to be the best in single-player roleplaying and NWN to be the best in multiplayer roleplaying. In other words, don't pass up what we do best. =)

World Map

As for the world map, nothing solid's been worked out yet but don't assume that a world map means imported bitmaps. For instance, we could opt to go with a 'rubber-stamp' approach where you stamp down pre-made location icons (a village stamp, a forest stamp, a dungeon entrance stamp, etc.) to create your world map. As I said, though, we won't be putting too much thought into this issue until a little bit later in the development cycle.

Cutscenes

Regarding cutscenes, you'll basically be using the scripting language to take control of the camera and make your 'actors' do what you want them to. It will take some knowledge of the scripting language but should be quite flexible once you know what you're doing. You'll definitely be able to trigger any of the music that ships with the game. As for using custom music, that's part of the whole user-end customization debate. We'd like to but we still need to work out the details.

War2 Beta Delayed
Berendir @ 21:39 EST

Well it seems we'll have to wait a little longer for the War Craft Two Conversion Beta. Heres what Gurthaur had to say about it:

After more testing I've found even more bugs, some of them a bit serious, but fixable. Examples of this are the human computer training a whole bunch of healers, or just train a heap of units but jut hangs around waiting for teh opponent to attack, or the computers not making metal mines (mainly because they don't make metal miners...) and worst of all, the game suddenly chrashing with no apparent reason..

Linux Games Petition
Berendir @ 19:05 EST

If you are a Linux user and would like to see more games ported to Linux, head over Here and sign the petition.

Tux Games is determined to see all of the major commercial games ported to Linux. But before this can happen, the major game companies must be made aware of the demand. That is where we come in.
